Ingredient FAQ

Where do you source your ingredients from?

We primarily use locally sourced ingredients in all of our seasonal products, and rely on many value-added vendors to supplement our always-made-in-house products, including:

- Holmes Sweet Home
- TUFT Confectionary
- MacGregor Orchard
- Rambling Rosa Farm
- Bee Well Honey
- Bio-Way Farm
- Carolina Ground

We also responsibly source bulk items, like butters, flours, or sugars, from distribution partners in the Upstate of SC and Foothills of NC.

Are any of your items gluten free or vegan?

Yes! We feature a number of gluten free or vegan treats as part of our core offerings. We also have developed an incredible vegan and gluten free ice cream that will be available for purchase soon!

Do you use any dyes or synthetic food colorings?

Not really! We prioritize natural food coloring in our products. Sometimes, we will create our own sanding sugars using food colorings for specialty items, and we will always point this out in the product description.

Are you hiring?

We’d love to learn more about you and if you’d make a great fit for the Hester General Store team! You can find open jobs here.

Delicious Pie!

I bought a caramel apple pie for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it! The crust was flaky but also melted in your mouth and the pie had really wonderful caramel infusion that didn't overwhelm the apple flavor. I would totally buy this again!

Pies from Hester General Store

This was my first experience with ordering pies from Hester. The experience was very efficient and friendly. I love going into the store in that it brings back memories of these stops (often associated with a gas station) from my past.
The pies were a big hit with my Thanksgiving crowd and, with little ones, really server more than 8. The Caramel Apple was full of fruit and every bite delicious. We also had the pecan pie which was equally scrumptous and not scrimping on any ingredients. I will make Hester's a part of my general and especially Holiday life

Our Thanksgiving guests were raving about the salted caramel apple pie! The crust and filling were just perfect.

Excellent Apple Pie

Excellent apple pie. Actually, superb. Oh, if I am splurging on a freshly baked dessert pie from a small local business (artisan)...I don't care about a ridiculous nutritional label.
